What STEAM Champions UAE is

STEAM Champions UAE is a structured student competition programme for schools, built around a set of challenge categories that students enter according to their interests and their school’s provision.

The programme is organised in seasons. Each season has a theme, and the categories run within it. This means participation is not a single event but a period of work: students develop a project or entry within a category over the course of the season, supported by their school.

Three things distinguish it from a one-off competition day:

  • It is category-based. Students take part in one category rather than across all of them, so schools can enter students according to strengths and interests.
  • It is season-based. Work develops over time rather than being produced in a single sitting.
  • It supports the teachers as well as the students. A coach certification route exists for educators supporting participating students.

The programme spans more than a single discipline. Alongside technical categories, it includes innovation and creative communication routes — so a school competition entry may involve engineering and programming, sustainable design, or media and storytelling, depending on the category chosen.

Competition categories

STEAM Champions UAE is organised into distinct challenge categories. Each has its own focus, and students take part in the category that suits them.

AI, Robotics & Drones

The technical category, centred on programming, robotics and drone-based challenges. Suited to students developing applied technical skills.

Circular Futures Innovation & Venture Challenge

The innovation category, focused on developing solutions to sustainability and circular-economy problems. Suited to students interested in design thinking and applied problem-solving.

Circular Stories Creative Challenge

The creative communication category, focused on storytelling and media. Suited to students who want to communicate ideas about sustainability through creative work.

Global Online Division

A participation route for entries submitted online rather than in person.

Each category page sets out what that category involves. Requirements, formats and any category-specific information for the current season are published on the category pages and the current-season page.

Current season

STEAM Champions UAE 2026/2027 — Circular Futures

The current season runs under the Circular Futures theme, connecting the challenge categories to sustainability and circular-economy thinking.

Season-specific information — including how the categories run this season, what participation involves and any current operational detail — is published on the season page and kept up to date there.

Schools that would like to discuss participation before reviewing the season detail are welcome to get in touch.

What participation involves

Participation is structured around the season and the category a student enters. In broad terms:

  • A school decides to take part, and identifies which categories suit its students.
  • Students work within a category across the season, developing their entry with support from their school.
  • Teachers support participants as coaches, and may pursue coach certification.
  • Entries are submitted or presented according to the requirements published for that category and season.

The specific stages, requirements and timelines for the current season are published on the season page and in the rules and resources section, so that schools are working from current information rather than a general description.

Schools considering participation for the first time are welcome to enquire and discuss what involvement would look like for their students.

Coach certification

Teachers and prospective coaches supporting students in STEAM Champions can pursue coach certification.

The certification route is designed for the educators who work directly with participating students — providing structure and preparation for the coaching role rather than leaving it to be worked out alongside the competition itself.

Schools developing wider teacher capability alongside competition participation may also find EduStream’s educator development programme relevant.

Events and participation routes

STEAM Champions UAE includes both in-person and online participation.

  • Events — scheduled activity within the season, published on the events page.
  • Global Online Division — a route for entries submitted online.

Details of what is scheduled, where and when, are published on the events page and the current-season page so that information remains current.

Previous seasons

STEAM Champions UAE has run across multiple seasons. Material from earlier seasons is archived so that schools can see how the programme has developed and what previous participants worked on.

Rules and resources

Rules, guidance and supporting materials for participants and coaches are published in the rules and resources section, and are maintained there so that schools and coaches work from current documentation.
